Teamwork: One Body, Many Parts

“the body… its parts should have equal concern for each other”

Today is Trinity Sunday, and this gives the subject of Teamwork a great headstart. Trinity is a term used to express the doctrine of the unity of God as subsisting in three distinct Persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. One of the best Scriptures in which we see these distinct Persons is here:

And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Matt 3:16-17)

Jesus had already been recognized by John the Baptist as the Messiah, the Lamb of God, and after negotiations, John accepted to baptize Jesus, not knowing that his revelation would be confirmed by the Holy Spirit and the Father in the dramatic and audible scene. The Gospel of John is also awash with this doctrine – that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are one, continually working together (John 14:26).

The Three Persons can be spoken of as the greatest Team. God has therefore created us in such a way that we are more effective when we work as teams. Teamwork divides the task and doubles the success. Even the most gifted are hard-limited outside a team; great basketballer Michael Jordan put it this way: “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.” The best strikers on the football pitch are helpless without good crosses from the mid-field. Even the body has been painted by Apostle Paul as a team in which each member is a unique player with special functions and contributions, yet in constant need of support from the other members.

As we inaugurate our Chapel Council today, we launch this special team into the arena to play her part in the body of Christ at Kakumba Chapel. Let us pray, support and cheer this team all the way.

God bless you all.
